Cen – Leepwal
Leepwal is a relatively faint star, officially cataloged as a constellation code CMa, identified by the Gaia Hyperaccurate Data of 68002. Located in the constellation Cen, it is approximately 2.55 magnitudes brighter than the unremarkable Sun. Leepwal orbits the galactic center, taking approximately 130 years to complete a single orbit. It’s currently situated just outside the ecliptic, a relatively narrow plane of the Milky Way.
Leepwal’s recognizable nature is primarily rooted in its position within the constellation Cen. Unlike numerous more significant bright stars in the sky, Leepwal sits somewhat unobjective; it does not offer the immense brightness or spectral characteristics that draw the eye. Given its relative distance and low luminosity – roughly 87 light years from Earth – it’s consistently observable to the naked eye. Many astronomers use it as a navigational marker in the region.
Looking through a telescope, Leepwal possesses a subtly distinctive shape, giving it a unique appearance among the numerous bright stars in its immediate environment.
