Is this an official IAU name?
No. You are dedicating a real star on our map as a gift. You are not buying the star and you are not receiving an official name from the International Astronomical Union. Scientific names (and the absence of a proper name) stay as they are in the catalogues.
Can I give a star as a present?
Yes. At checkout you set the recipient’s name, a message, an occasion, and optionally their email. We never put the price in a message to the recipient. When the dedication is published they can open the star page and see it on the map.
When does it appear on the map?
After payment (or after you confirm a free week) we review the text and any photo. That usually takes up to two working days. Then the dedication is published on the star and in the public sky. You get an email when it is live (production mail must be working on our side).
Can I change the dedication later?
Not from self-serve account tools today. Write to us via the contact form with the order number. We may update a published message if the change is modest and still passes moderation. We do not move a paid dedication to a different star after publication.
What happens when it expires?
Timed plans (week, month, year, 5 or 10 years) leave the public map at the end of the period. The star can then be dedicated by someone else. Lifetime stays as long as we run the map, unless we must remove it under the Terms. Automatic renewal is not available yet.
How do refunds work?
For a paid order that is not yet published, ask within 14 days and we refund via PayPal and free the star. After publication we refund only if we refused or removed the dedication, or if we made a charging error. The free week has no charge. There is no one-click refund button in the account: use contact and quote the order number. Full rules: Terms.
Can two people dedicate the same star?
Not at the same time. While a dedication is live that star is exclusive on SkyKeepsake. After it expires (or if we cancel it) it can be dedicated again.
Can I add a photo?
Yes, in the configurator. The photo is optional, goes through the same moderation, and may be resized for the map. Use only images you have the right to publish.
Do I need an account?
No, not to buy. We need a valid email for the order. An account is useful later if you want to see your dedications in one place or reset a password.
What does the free week cost?
Nothing. PayPal is not used. The dedication still goes through moderation. We can limit free weeks if they are used to spam the map.
Which currency is this?
Euro. PayPal charges in EUR.
