Terms of Service
These terms govern the purchase of a symbolic star dedication on SkyKeepsake (skykeepsake.com). They apply in English or Italian depending on the language you use on the site. Last updated: 8 September 2026.
What you are buying
You are buying a personalised dedication linked to a real star in our catalogue, shown on our interactive sky map for the duration you choose. You are not buying the star, any land on a celestial body, or an official name recognised by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) or any public authority. The IAU remains the scientific reference for star names. A SkyKeepsake dedication is a gift and a keepsake on our platform, nothing more.
The catalogue and availability
Stars come from astronomical catalogues (primarily Gaia DR3). Availability is exclusive on SkyKeepsake: while a dedication is live, that star cannot be dedicated again by someone else. Coordinates and magnitude are scientific data; labels such as a proper name or “SKS …” are how we show the star on the product.
Prices and duration
Prices are in euro. The public list is:
- 7 days — €0 (introductory week)
- 1 month — €19
- 1 year — €59
- 5 years — €79
- 10 years — €89
- Lifetime — €99 (for as long as SkyKeepsake operates the map)
Visual presets and graphic extras do not add to the price: you pay the duration only. We may change the list for new orders; an order already paid keeps the price you paid. The free week can be limited or removed if it is abused (spam, illegal content, automated mass checkout).
Checkout, payment and lock
While you configure a star we hold it for about 15 minutes so nobody else takes it. After you confirm, paid orders go to PayPal; you have about 30 minutes to finish payment. Unpaid holds expire and the star becomes available again. A total of €0 (the free week) does not use PayPal. Paid orders are captured in EUR.
Moderation and publication
Every dedication is reviewed before it appears on the map. We usually complete the review within two working days. We may refuse or later remove a dedication that is illegal, hateful, sexual involving minors, spam, impersonation, or otherwise incompatible with a public gift on a sky map. If we refuse a paid order for that reason we refund the price; the star returns to the catalogue. We do not publish illegal content even if it was paid for.
Gifts
You may dedicate a star to someone else. If you enter their email we use it to send the link when the star is live — not the amount you paid. You are responsible for having a legitimate reason to send them that message.
Expiry and renewal
Timed dedications disappear from the public map when they expire; the star may then be dedicated by someone else. Lifetime dedications stay until we shut down the product or must remove them under these terms. Self-serve renewal is not offered yet: when it exists we will describe it here and in the account area. Until then, a timed dedication is not extended automatically.
Withdrawal and refunds
SkyKeepsake is a digital service that starts as soon as you confirm (lock, payment, moderation queue). For paid orders:
- If the dedication is not yet published, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of purchase by writing through the contact form with your order number. We stop publication and free the star.
- If the dedication is already published, there is no refund except where we refused or removed it for moderation, or where we made an error (wrong star, double charge).
- The free week has no payment, so there is nothing to refund. We can still remove abusive free dedications.
Refunds of PayPal charges are issued back through PayPal. There is no one-click self-serve refund in the customer account: write to us so we can check the order.
Your content
You grant us a licence to show the dedication and optional image on the map, star page and related previews for the life of the order. You confirm you have the rights to that text and image. We may crop or resize images for the map. We are not obliged to keep a copy after expiry or removal.
Accounts
You can check out with an email without creating an account. An account is required if you want a persistent “my stars” area. Keep your password to yourself. We may close accounts used for abuse.
Liability
The map and catalogue are provided as a consumer gift product, not as a professional astronomy instrument. Catalogues and sky photographs can contain errors or delays. We do not warrant that a particular star will remain scientifically classified as it is today. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or other liability that Italian law does not allow us to exclude. For other losses our liability for a paid order is capped at the amount you paid for that order.
Law and forum
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you may sue in the courts of your place of residence as well as any other forum Italian or EU law gives you. If you are not a consumer, the courts of Italy have jurisdiction.
