Cookie Policy

SkyKeepsake uses essential cookies and similar storage only. We do not set advertising cookies and we do not run analytics cookies on the public site today. Last updated: 8 September 2026.

What this policy covers

It lists the cookies and local storage the public site actually uses. The operator backoffice at /ops is not part of the public site; its login cookie is not set when you only browse the map. Details on personal data are in the Privacy policy.

Essential cookies

  • yss_draft_session — httpOnly cookie. Identifies your checkout draft so the star you are configuring stays yours for about 15 minutes (and so a second purchase does not overwrite the first). Lifetime: 30 days or until checkout reset. Without it, paid and free checkout cannot work reliably.
  • sessionid — Django session cookie if you sign in to an account. Lifetime: up to 30 days of inactivity. Needed to stay logged in.
  • csrftoken — protects account and form posts against cross-site request forgery. Strictly necessary for those requests.

These cookies are first-party, on skykeepsake.com. They are not used to build an advertising profile.

Storage in your browser (not cookies)

  • yss.cookie-consent.v1 — remembers that you dismissed the essential-cookie notice, so we do not show it on every page load.
  • Map preferences — for example the sky-photo survey you last chose (2MASS, DSS, …) and similar UI flags. They stay on this device only.
  • PWA / Sky Observer — if you install or dismiss the install prompt, the browser keeps a short-lived flag so we do not nag you again in the same session.

You can delete local storage from the browser settings; the map will simply use defaults again.

PayPal

When you pay, PayPal may set its own cookies on paypal.com. That is PayPal’s processing, described in PayPal’s documents. We do not read those cookies.

Consent

Because we only use cookies that are necessary to provide the service you requested (checkout, account, security), we show an informational banner with a link to this page rather than an advertising opt-in. If we ever add analytics or marketing cookies we will ask for a separate opt-in before setting them.

How to delete cookies

Use your browser settings to remove cookies for skykeepsake.com. If you delete yss_draft_session while configuring a star, that draft may be lost and the star can become available to someone else after the lock expires.
